Frequently Asked Questions

This page provides answers to questions we hear frequently.  Please feel free to contact us to refine these answers or to obtain information that is not covered in this page.

1. How long does it take to get my prints?

Most orders are shipped in less than a week. The lab works during the week, so orders made on weekends may take longer than orders placed during the week. You are offered a selection of delivery services upon check-out each with a stated typical delivery time.  Your shipping choice will impact the total delivery time; however, delivery times in less than a week from order date are common.

2. Images in your gallery contain “KSH Photographic”, will this be on my prints too?

No, images that we sell do not contain any watermarks. Watermarks are used to protect our images when displayed on-line.  We have chosen to watermark with “KSH Photographic” so that if people download these images, a practice that we do not recommend as it violates applicable copyright laws, they will remember where they got them.  Your printed images will not have any watermark on them, we do, however, electronically sign all prints. See below for more.

3. Do you sign your prints?

We electronically sign all prints we sell through our online galleries.  This electronic signature is small and in the lower corner of the picture in a color to coordinate with the picture yet allowing it to be seen.

4. How do you print your photos?

To bring you the highest quality prints possible, we have partnered with Exposure Manager, a professional photographic lab, to print our photos.  Our printing process uses Fujicolor Crystal Archive Type II Photo Paper and traditional chemical photographic printing processes.

5. Do you use ink jet printers or other desktop printing processes?

No.  All of the photos we sell are printed using a traditional chemical photographic printing process. We have chosen to use traditional methods because we desire to provide you with an image that will withstand the test of time.  While prints made on ink jets and other desktop printing processes may, depending on the process and paper used, hold up well over time, traditional methods using high quality archival papers such as we use are proven to hold up well over time.

6. What types of finishes can I order on my prints?

We offer three finishes: glossy, luster and matte.

7. You note that you may crop an image, why is this necessary?

Most, but not all, of our images are shot in a format that provides a 2:3 aspect ratio, so we will discuss this format to explain cropping. Cropping would pertain to any image not printed in its native aspect ratio. If you order a 12 x 18 print, then the image shot in a 2:3 aspect ratio would not need to be cropped. If, however, you ordered a 8 x 10 print, or a 4:5 aspect ratio, then we  need to crop the image to fit this different aspect ratio.  We offer prints in sizes that work with the image and for which a high quality cropped image can be made.

8. Will my images appear exactly as they do on my monitor?

This is a very good question and the answer is probably not. The reason for this is that computer monitors, unless properly calibrated, generally do not display true colors.  Professional photographers calibrate their monitors frequently to ensure that they are working with true colors, however, most people do not calibrate their monitors, so the colors may be off a bit.

9. Do you have recommendations for framing?

We suggest having your images professionally framed. This process should include dry mounting the picture on an archival quality backing board and the use of archival quality mats. The colors of the mat(s) and the frame style are matters of personal preference. Archival quality materials will greatly lengthen the life of your prints as they are free of acids and other chemicals that cause accelerated deterioration of photographic prints.

10. Do you have recommendation for where to hang pictures?

Photographs, like any artwork, are subject to deterioration based on their environment and exposure to direct lighting. KSH Photographic recommends that you display your photographs on a wall that does not receive direct sunlight and is not subject to other direct harsh lighting.   Additionally, we recommend that your photos not be subjected to harsh chemicals.  Such chemicals are not usually found in homes, but could be associated with certain industrial environments.

11. Do you sell photographs already framed and ready to hang on my wall?

  • Unless clearly stated otherwise printed images sold by KSH Photographic are photographic prints that are not mounted, matted or framed. While our basic business model is to provide our customers with high quality prints that they may frame with the mat colors and frame styles that best suit their tastes, we will, upon request, sell photographs that are ready to hang on your wall.  We always use archival quality matting and backing board to ensure the best longevity of your print.  Pricing for such services is determined on an individual basis and delivery requires approximately 4 to 6 weeks.  Purchasers who desire to have KSH Photographic perform these services, please contact us for a quote.
